#GirlDefenders prepare for rollout of information dissemination plan on RA 11596 or Prohibition of Child Marriage (PCM) Law

3-4 May, Quezon City | Representatives from 30 organizations enhanced their skills in advocacy and communications in preparation for the rollout of the co-created advocacy and communications plan for the information dissemination of RA 11596.

Representatives from national government agencies including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Council for the Welfare of Children, Commission on Human Rights, Philippine Commission on Women, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples; as well as implementers from the Ministry of Social Services and Development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao; and civil society organizations including the Pambansang Koalisyon ng Kababaihan sa Kanayunan, Maguindanao Alliance of Youth Advocates (MAYA), Linding Ko Kalombayan, Alliance of Children and Youth Advocates, and the United Youth of the Philippines-Women (UnYPhil), gathered to link and learn strategies contributing to the implementation of the law.

Speakers from PLCPD Rom Dongeto, Angie Piadozo Ramirez, communications consultant Richard Dy, Oxfam Communications Officer Luisa Bautista, and UP Professor Marvin Olaes shared their expertise in advocacy, communications, and public speaking. A panel discussion on challenges and wins on ending child marriage was facilitated by Luisa Carla Galicia of PLCPD and featured stories on the ground from MAYA, Linding, UnYPhil, DSWD, and Oxfam.

The capacity building workshop was organized by PLCPD with support from Oxfam.
