Mapping stronger partnerships to advance legislation on Women, Peace and Security in the 20th Congress
PLCPD gathered 15 legislative and committee staff from the House of Representatives to solidify commitments to advance the WPS legislative agenda on:
- The Institutionalization of Women and Children Protection Units
- Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Act
- Human Rights Defenders Protection (HRD)
- Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
Legislative and Committee staff from the following offices developed an advocacy plan for the WPS LA:
- Officers of the Congressional Staff Association (CONSA)
- Office of Rep. Krisel Lagman;
- Office of Rep. Bella Suansing;
- Office of Rep. Adrian Salceda;
- Office of Deputy Speaker Rep. Raymond Mendoza;
- Office of Rep. Dennis Hernandez
- Office of Rep. Jesus “Jess” Marquez;
- Office of Rep. Bong Suntay;
- Office of Rep. Paolo Duterte
- NANAY Partylist;
- TINGOG Partylist;
- PPP Partylist;
- Committee on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity;
- Committee on Women and Gender Equality;
- GAD Focal Point System of the House of Representatives.
The OPAPRU Women, Peace and Security Center of Excellence and the Philippine Commission on Women oriented participants on the WPS agenda and its global and national landscape. They also discussed the current efforts to mainstream the WPS framework in policymaking. The WEAct 1325 network shared with legislative staff the active efforts of civil society organizations in localizing WPS and consolidating the concerns of conflict-affected communities.
PLCPD presented to participants its legislative agenda on women, peace and security. PLCPD ED Aurora Quilala facilitated a discussion on prospects for advancing WPS legislation in the 20th Congress, with inputs from legislative staff in attendance.
The training included a session on advocacy experiences and access points for the WPS campaign led by Director of Knowledge Resrouce Center Angie Ramirez, and an advocacy and communications workshop.
